Ole Miss Partners Training with OSS

By Katie McConnell | Tue, 13 Sep 2011

OSS - Law Enforcement Advisors announced today that The University of Mississippi Division of Outreach & Continuing Education has partnered with OSS to offer online Law Enforcement, Jail and Security courses through the Ole Miss website.

"We are simply ecstatic!", said Dr. David Salmon, Senior Law Enforcement Advisor at OSS.  "This is a fantastic opportunity to serve the law enforcement, jail and security communities in a tangible, low cost and most effective way.  The majority of the 100 online training courses cost only $10 each and are P.O.S.T. approved in many states throughout the US."

Law enforcement and jail operations have been struggling through the tough economy like the rest of us.  County and city governments have seen their tax base shrinking as a result of lower home prices.  Talk of potential law enforcement and jailer layoffs have been moving quickly throughout the US in cities and counties like Cape Coral, Florida, Cincinatti, Ohio and Bexar County, Texas.  State law enforcement agencies are not immune either.  Connecticut State Police is now considering eliminating some of its own state law enforcement officers.

"Offering distance or e-learning courses online has served to keep officers and jailers trained without the expense of course fees, hotel, per-diem, overtime and other typical training costs", said Dr. Salmon.
